Mr. Moinuddin Ahmed is a luminous star in the world of photojournalism in Bangladesh. He was born on July 25, 1970, into a traditional Muslim family in Dhaka. His father was a Director at Bangladesh Railways, and his mother is a homemaker. Since childhood, he developed an intrinsic connection with photography. After the establishment of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in 1946, his paternal uncle joined there as a medical photographer. The family studio business and his uncle’s professional environment compelled Moinuddin to fall in love with the camera at a very young age. Although his initiation into photojournalism began in the eighties through a weekly magazine published by his younger uncle, he could not continue it regularly at that time due to the pressure of his studies. However, that childhood passion for photography eventually led him to the pinnacle of professional excellence.
Moinuddin Ahmed began his full-fledged career in 2006 by joining the country’s traditional sports magazine, ‘Kriraloke’. Subsequently, in 2008, he joined the English daily ‘The New Nation’, where he is currently serving as the Chief Photojournalist. To enhance his professional skills, he earned a Diploma in Photojournalism from the renowned Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in 2013. For the purpose of sports news collection and photography, he has traveled to more than 10 countries around the world.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to journalism, he has been honored with numerous national and international awards. In 2017, he received the “Photojournalist of the Year” award from ‘AbasanNews24.com’. In 2019, at the invitation of the NFPJA of Nepal, he received the “Third National Nepal Live Photojournalism Award” from the then Deputy Prime Minister of the country, Ishwar Pokhrel. Additionally, he received the Bandhu Mahal Donor Society Honor in 2021 and the ‘Tobacco Control Movement Media of the Year’ award from the Dhonuk organization in 2022. Most recently, the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust(Ministry of Information And Broadcasting,Bangladesh) accorded him a special honor for his immense courage during the 2024-25 student-led mass uprising.
He is also well-known as a successful organizer. While serving as an executive member and Finance Secretary of the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association, he successfully served as the convener of the ‘Ruposhi Bangla Photo Contest’ twice. His latest international achievement is the “Outstanding Photojournalism Award” received at the Asian Professional Achievement Award ceremony held in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2025. Moinuddin Ahmed continues to keep the moments of history alive through the lens of his camera.
