Code of Conduct & Code of Ethics
Preamble
The Asian Photojournalists Association (APA) is committed to promoting ethical, accurate, fair, and responsible visual journalism. Every member is expected to uphold the highest professional standards while respecting human dignity, cultural diversity and freedom of the press. This Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics serves as a guide for all members in carrying out their professional responsibilities.
Code of Conduct
1. Professional Integrity
Members shall act honestly, responsibly, and professionally in all assignments and public engagements.
2. Respect for Human Dignity
Members shall treat every individual with dignity and respect regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, disability or social background.
3. Accuracy and Truth
Photographs and visual content must accurately represent events and must never intentionally mislead the public.
4. Respect for the Law
Members shall comply with the laws and regulations of the countries in which they work while defending legitimate press freedom.
5. Professional Behaviors
Members shall conduct themselves respectfully toward colleagues, editors, sources, and members of the public.
6. Non-Discrimination
APA members shall not engage in discrimination, harassment, bullying, or abusive behavior.
7. Conflict of Interest
Members shall avoid personal, political, or financial conflicts that may compromise their professional independence.
8. Confidentiality
Confidential information and sensitive sources shall be protected unless disclosure is required by law or public interest.
9. Safety and Security
Members shall prioritize their own safety and the safety of others while covering assignments.
10. Accountability
Members are responsible for their actions and shall cooperate with any APA review regarding professional conduct.
