Kathmandu, Nepal — A new chapter in Asian visual journalism is about to begin with the upcoming official launch of the Asian Photojournalists Association (APA), an independent regional organization dedicated to promoting ethical photojournalism, press freedom, professional excellence and cross-border collaboration among photojournalists across Asia.
Established in 2026, the Association aims to create a strong network of professional photojournalists, media organizations, educators and visual storytellers committed to documenting truth with integrity and responsibility.
Under the slogan “Capturing Truth. Connecting Asia.”, APA seeks to foster cooperation among journalists from diverse cultural and geographic backgrounds while promoting high standards of ethical journalism and visual storytelling.
The Association will introduce a wide range of initiatives, including professional membership, international networking opportunities, training workshops, photography exhibitions, awards and recognition programs, exchange visits, and collaborative reporting projects. APA also plans to organize international conferences, seminars and capacity-building programs to support the growth of the next generation of photojournalists throughout Asia.
One of the Association’s primary objectives is to advocate for press freedom, protect the rights and safety of photojournalists, and encourage responsible journalism in an era of rapid technological change and digital transformation.
According to the organizing committee, the official APA website will soon be launched, providing comprehensive information on membership registration, organizational activities, upcoming events, and partnership opportunities. The website will serve as a central platform connecting photojournalists across Asia and promoting collaboration among media professionals.
“The Asian Photojournalists Association is more than just an organization—it is a platform to unite visual storytellers who believe in truth, integrity and the power of photography to inspire positive change,” the organizing committee said.
APA welcomes collaboration with national photojournalist associations, press organizations, journalism schools, media institutions and international partners who share its commitment to strengthening ethical visual journalism throughout the region.
The Association is expected to officially announce its executive committee, founding members, advisory board, and membership program during its launch event.
With Asia representing one of the world’s most diverse regions, APA aspires to become a leading professional network that amplifies the voices of photojournalists while preserving the credibility and impact of visual journalism.
